Why do we need a Military?

Hello. I am a member of the University Lacrosse Team. I am writing to express the question of why we need a military. First, allow me to provide context.

My teammates and I were recently forced to work out with a Navy Seal.  Afterward, I think I may now have PTSD for the rest of my life. Several of my teammates were rushed to the hospital. They’re already talking about disability which means some of us probably won’t have to work the rest of our lives

Growing up, I experienced some profound and just life views. Like my aunt publicly yelling at Soldiers in uniform returning from an overseas tour. She screamed such things as “Murderer! You’re a baby killer. Animals like you are the reason the government can’t provide Americans with jobs. All the government's budget is spent on war-mongering capitalists!” My babysitter's name was My Lai, so it really touched me emotionally.

My Father constantly told me he was nearly killed during the Beirut Marine barracks bombing in 83. Luckily his flight was diverted, and they didn’t use that airspace.

What I’m trying to say is, that we are the most powerful, rich, and influential nation in the world. Why are we wasting time and resources on the military? Anybody steps foot on our land, there are millions of people like my Uncle Dwight with shotguns and AR-15s stocked up out the kazoo. The last time an Asian gentleman got out of line, I personally witnessed the local drunk smack him all the way back to Chinatown.

People, we HAVE to come together and get our priorities straight. I know Bernie Sanders is getting old, but I believe if we can all unite, there is a chance to get him into the Oval Office in 2028.

And to my 5th grade teacher, thank you for not making me say the pledge every day. It truly opened my mind to not becoming brainwashed.
